I recently ran a short 5-week course called ‘Healthy eating on a budget’ at Bournville School, Weston-Super-Mare, supporting vulnerable parents who volunteered to take the course.
Each session comprised of an education section looking at a different macro nutrient and body organ each week; a knowledge quiz to ensure understanding and a practical section where we cooked healthy balanced meal together. The students took the food home to their families and reported back on how their families felt about eating in a different way. The feedback was usually positive with even some fussy kids trying new things.
I was able to demonstrate how cooking from scratch at home is both cheaper and healthier than processed ready-made choices and it was a lot of fun!
I have also been asked to take part in a healthy living initiative put together by 6th form students at the Bristol Metropolitan Academy in Fishponds.
